Talk about an unexpectedly polarizing character: when it comes to Bleach, there’s one character that’s almost universally loved by Japanese fans, yet is considered annoying and boring by American standards. May I present to you the lovely Momo Hinamori, the lieutenant of Squad 5 and Aizen’s personal plaything. Now, I don’t pretend to be an expert on the cultural differences between Japan and the US, so here’s what TV Tropes has to say about this phenomenon:

“Momo Hinamori from Bleach manages to rank very high in Japanese popularity polls, even though she’s disliked almost everywhere else. This may be because the Japanese like her very feminine, gentle nature and blind loyalty, while in the West, those traits are seen as weakness and sexist.”

To be honest, this viewpoint sort of bums me out. To me, Momo is more than just a subservient stereotype. She’s been shown to be a ridiculously badass kido user and genius on-the-spot tactician (remember how she came to Rangiku’s aid against Apache, Sun-Sun and Mila-Rose?) as well as self-aware of her failings when it comes to letting Aizen manipulate her (she gives a rather stirring speech about her naivety and youth in the Zanpakuto arc of the anime). I could go on for ages about this, but since this is a gallery description and not really supposed to be a character analysis, I’ll just leave it at this: I find Momo to be a great character. Plus, she’s beyond beautiful, which lends itself well to hentai!
